Congratulations All !!
Hello everyone, in particular participants in the 2020 Cossie Club Shoot.
The final results are in (after 94 rounds) and things have changed a little from the list which has been on the Noticeboard for the last couple of weeks.
Top 3 Qualifiers based on best 10 Stableford scores through the year were, for the men, Terrence Horne (373), Meka Boynton (371) and Chas Evans (370) – on countback from Mal Wellington.
And for the women’s event, which is being played on Saturday 28th Nov, the top 3 qualifiers were Lina Worthing (370), Kerry Baines (369) and Amie Clisby (366) – on countback from Kim Abrahams.
Unfortunately, in the Men’s event, Terrence Horne and a few others are unable to play. But for those outside top 19, there is the opportunity to bring the playing field up to a full complement of 19 players.
The list below excludes those who have already advised us of their unavailability and includes those who were First Reserves so we now need all those on this new list, including the new First Reserves, to please [re-]confirm their availability.

A Big Thank You to the Cossie Club Upper Hutt who as Sponsor for this event provide extra funding for prizes in the form of Gift Vouchers to be redeemed at the Cossie Club. Fantastic. Thank You.
Thanks to Chris Brooks, our Club Captain, for taking the time to come down and set the day rolling.
Thanks also to our Event Officials John Cooper, Allan Old, Jamie Ryland who, along with the players who, after being knocked out, stayed on to help, made the event run very smoothly and successfully. The weather was not fantastic so these folks deserve special accolades for sticking through the sometimes rather uncomfortable conditions.
With a late apology from one scheduled participant, the 2016 Cossie Club Shootout Final started with only 18 participants. Play still started from #1 but the 15th hole, which is stroke-hole 18 (the easiest one on the golf course ☺ ), was skipped in terms of shootout proceedings.

Congratulations to all who made the final and special congratulations to our 2016 Cossie Club Men’s Shootout Champion, Clinton Codyre.
Never let it be said that low handicappers have no chance in this event – Clinton is on a 4 handicap, the lowest in a field of 18 with the highest handicap a 24 and there being a good spread in between (7 players under 10, 7 in the 10 -20 range and 4 over 20).
And we must remember those who did not make the Final – without their participation, the event would be a non-event !!
There IS a Women’s component to Cossie Club Shootout but this year there were only 3 finalists available, Amie Clisby, Kerry Baines and Kim Abrahams – a small group but still a serious competition. The result from that little contest was
Congratulations Kim, our 2016 Cossie Club Women’s Shootout Champion.
Special thanks to our ‘behind the scenes’ organisers, Sonia & Di in the Shop and Maree, Grahame and Blake for managing the sale and supply of refreshments.
A great day – despite the occasional shower – so be sure to put the Cossie Club Shootout on your list of must-do golfing events for Te Marua Golf Club’s 2017 Season.
The 37th Te Marua “Masters” Golf Tournament was held from 27th to 30th December inclusive at the Te Marua Golf Club, 7km north of Upper Hutt CBD.
Blessed with 4 days of brilliant summer weather, conceivably the best 4 days the Te Marua Masters tournament has seen in the last 10 years, there was a lot of very good golf played.
The 72-hole stroke-play Tournament is played in 5 Handicap divisions. For the Women, 2 divisions – Silver (0 – 18.4) and Bronze (18.5 – 40.4). For the Men, 3 divisions – Senior (0 – 9.8), Intermediate (9.9 – 15.5) and Junior (15.6 to maximum of 28.7).
The primary competition, in each division, is a gross-score contest where every shot counts and it is the final actual score which really matters.
There can be only one winner in each division and along with the typical set of golf prizes, those winners each receive a Te Marua Masters Jacket – a recognition of the event being the local version of the well know ‘Green Jacket” event held in the U.S.A., The Masters. (The Te Marua Masters Jacket is Blue.)
The full event also incorporates Nett and Stableford competitions, long-drive, nearest-the-pin and hole-in-two contests. Consequently all players, high and low handicappers alike, have the opportunity to pick up a prize during the 4 days of golfing competition.
The 154 competitors, playing in their relevant Handicap divisions, battled for the ultimate prize – the title of Te Marua Masters Champion for 2015, and the coveted “Blue Jacket”.
The Te Marua Masters tournament is also the season opener for the Wellington Golf Inc’s Order of Merit programme which is used to determine the top players in the region.
This year’s tournament attracted a good number of single figure handicappers, including a few on a ‘plus’ handicaps. Players at that level possess some serious ability and skill in the sport of golf, skill which includes everything from hitting the ball 250m+ straight down the middle to playing miraculous recovery shots when things don’t go quite right to lofting a gentle chip to up to the hole to sinking 10m+ putts – some very impressive work.
But do not forget the rest of the field – everyone in the event will have displayed some hidden talent, be it only once or maybe many times. Playing even the occasional great shot, sinking the occasional long or difficult-to-read putt provides great memories for every golfer to treasure – and talk about with friends, golfers and non-golfers alike !
The Masters Champions for 2015, their home club and their 72-hole scores are:
Women
Silver Lisa Edgar 296 Surfers Paradise (Australia)
Bronze Audrey Messenger 357 Te Marua
Men
Senior Peter Spearman-Burn 282 Miramar
Intermediate Kayne Martin 317 Te Marua
Junior Alex Walters 351 Featherston

From left to right, Audrey Messenger, Alex Walters, Kayne Martin, Zane Wilkins (2nd in Junior Division), Lisa Edgar, Peter Spearman-Burn
Special congratulations to Lisa Edgar who, in the process of claiming her 2015 Te Marua Masters title, set a new Women’s Course record of 70 on Day 1 of the competition.
The Junior division was decided by a playoff after Alex Walters, one of the tournaments long standing participants and supports, and Zane Wilkins, a youngster playing in his first Te Marua Masters, both returned 72-hole scores of 351. Alex took the 2015 title in the first playoff hole but in that aspect, and indeed over the 4 days of the event, Zane showed the talent which is hovering, ready to take on the world – take a note of that name, Zane Wilkins, a golfing talent to be watched for sure.
The Te Marua Golf Club extends its thanks the Tournament’s sponsors, its supporters and all the competitors, who together helped make the 2015 Te Marua Masters a resounding success.
The 38th Te Marua “Masters” will be held from Dec 27th to Dec 30th, 2016 – Put this great event in your golfing calendar now.
