The AUSTAD CUP – what’s it all about ???
It’s a 2-round / 36-hole “PAR on Handicap” competition for the Men, entry is free and automatic.
All you have to do is play your own game on Sunday 19th July AND Sunday 26th July and return valid scorecards for both days !
The DotGolf system will do all the calculating and determine the winner but if you are interested and want to know how a “PAR on Handicap” competition works, read on …..
Scoring in a “PAR” competition is on a hole-by-hole basis, recording a WIN / LOSS / HALF (a.k.a. + / / O and PLUS / MINUS / SQUARE) after taking your course handicap into account.
To put it all into a possibly more familiar language………the language of “Stableford Points”……
- If your actual score gives you 2-WILL-DO stableford points, that’s a HALF
- If it gives you LESS than 2 stableford points, that’s a LOSS
- And if it gives you MORE than 2 stableford points that’s a WIN
So, if you get 3 S/F points on a hole, it’s a WIN and if you get 4 S/F points, it’s also a WIN – there’s no such thing as a “better” WIN !
Your ‘PAR’ score for the round is calculated by subtracting the number of Holes LOST from the number of Holes WON – (HALF holes are ignored)
An example with 4 players: If, for one 18-hole round, the hole-by-hole results show that player …………
- A – Won 6 and lost 5, (the rest halved), the score for the round is 6 – 5 = 1 displayed as +1 (a.k.a. 1 up. or PLUS 1 )
- B – Won 4 and lost 2, (the rest halved), the score for the round is 4 – 2 = 2 displayed as +2 (a.k.a. 2 up. or PLUS 2 )
- C – Won 7 and lost 10, (the rest halved), the score for the round is 7 – 10 = -3 displayed as -3 (a.k.a. 3 down or MINUS 3)
- D – Won 5 and lost 5 (the rest halved), the score for the round is 5 – 5 = 0 displayed as O (a.k.a. HALVED or ALL SQUARE)
The Holes Won minus Holes Lost calculation determines Player B has the best score and would win this 4-example contest.
