Ade Wadell was on the committee in 1948, when contact was made for the purchase of the land from Bloomfield Farm which at a later date became part of the course. This piece of land was purchased in 1954 for 15,287 pounds. Ade Wadell died in October 1954.

This is a four-ball match play competition using nett scores (rather than “off the stick” or Stableford points) based on the following structure:
Important note:
To encourage participation we have decided to open up eligibility criteria to include men and women members. Teams can now be either same-sex or mixed pairs, subject to each team meeting the handicap requirements set out below.
Four-Ball, Better-Ball match play on handicap:
Each pair to be one Senior (up to 15.6 index), one Junior (15.7 – 31.2 index) at the time of entry (please note the handicap boundaries differ from those published in the 2023 Programme Book)
Matches are to be played from tees of the day, with participants using their course handicap as at the date of play – Handicaps are NOT FROZEN across multiple rounds.
Players with a current handicap index of 31.2 or over must play off a maximum course handicap of 30 in this event.
Competition Type: Four Ball, Better Ball Matchplay on Handicap
FYI – H/C strokes to be taken/given are calculated RELATIVE to the LOWEST H/C in the match (which changes where STROKES ARE TAKEN/GIVEN).
| Ade Waddell – Competition Rules / Handicap Calculations | |
| 1 | Matches are played based on each player’s Course H/C for tees of the day. Where one or more players in a match play a different course to the lowest H/C player in the match, those players must utilise their match-specific H/C stroke entitlement on the stroke holes for the course they play, not the course played by the lowest H/C player in the match. |
| 2 | H/C strokes to be taken/given are calculated RELATIVE to the LOWEST COURSE H/C in the group – which CHANGES WHERE STROKES ARE TAKEN/GIVEN. For example: 4 players A,B,C and D with course H/C of 1, 9, 0 and 8 |
| 3 | Strokes are applied to the score using the stroke rating on the scorecard. For example: |
| Player C gets no shots – Player A gets one shot only and uses it on STROKE HOLE 1 – Player D gets 8 shots and uses them on STROKE HOLES 1 to 8 – Player B gets 9 shots on STROKE HOLES 1 to 9. | |
| 4 | The result for each hole is determined using the better NETT score from each team (the team’s second player’s score for that hole is NOT used). that is why it is called better ball |
| 5 | A halved match is to continue in “sudden death” mode from the hole at which the match started until one side wins a hole. |
This has been a popular event over the past two years and the competition is limited to a maximum of 16 pairs with the competition played over four knockout rounds.
This year we intend to run it on a “play by date” basis to allow the maximum flexibility to entrants. Matches can be held on any day acceptable to the respective pairs up to & including the play by dates which are as follow:
· First round to be played by 13/8/23
· Quarter finals to be played 27/8/23
· Semi finals to be played by 10/9/23
· Final to be played on Sunday, 17/9/23
If you want to enter please advise the office & let them know who your playing partner will be. There will also be an entry sheet posted in the shop. If you are keen to play but don’t have an immediate playing partner please let us know & we will endeavour to pair you with someone. Entries close 30/7/23 but this will be closed earlier if we reach the maximum of 16 pairs so please enter as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Once we have a final list of entrants we’ll publish the first round draw.
