BLOB

Afternoon everyone,

First and well overdue newsletter for the year!!!

Happy New Year to you all!!!

Well the office has been in a bit of a frenzy with office staff away since Christmas, Di was away on leave until January, I was in hospital and Gail who was covering my shifts ended up in hospital so thank goodness for Di and Emma stepping up and covering the extra shifts. You girls are AWESOME!!!!

Thank you to members for your consideration while we were short staffed over this period.

I am back and thank you for the lovely flowers plus tex messages and phone calls, Gail is back but not 100% so will still expect help with carts and any heavy lifting while doing her shift on every alternative Sunday.

Sadly Arthur Avis has passed away at 94, he popped in last year and was looking really good, I did hear however that he has been unwell – so our condolences go out to his family and friends.

2017 Women’s Weekend Shootout Winner was Joanne Carson, Runner-up was Kerry Baines, old news – better late than never!!!

Some Interclub results that have been in my folder are Division 1 played Shandon at home and lost 8-7 – pretty close, Division 9 played Judgeford and lost 9-6, Division 7 played at Paraparaumu and were totally beaten 12-3 – I am hoping in the next newsletter I will be able to use the word WIN!!!!! Please all Interclub teams Men’s and Women’s send your results in and feel free to add a sentence on someone’s good or bad play. We are your club and would like to know how our teams are doing!!!!

Winner of the Hui Ngaparu Trophy (Nett) for the men played on Waitangi Day was Jamie Gray 65, runner-up Steve Dearns.

Winner of the Lil Parkin Trophy (Stableford) for the women played on Waitanga Day was Lina Worthing 38, runner –up Chrissy Doughty.

Congratulations to the above winners.

Christine Doughty and Chris Herbert have been invited to attend the Wellington Eagles Golfing Society Halberg Field Day to be held at Masterton Golf Club on Sunday 18th March, they were both winners of the men’s and women’s division in our Halberg Day. Congratulation to you both – Please contact me to confirm your attendance.

On Saturday 17th March the course is closed for St Pats Day. Any members wanting to register for this day I have registration forms in the men’s and women’s changing room, plus one on the notice board. Club Members cost is $25.00, non-members cost is $40.00. This includes a light lunch after your game, all entries go into the lucky cash draw. For the players that have breakfast before your game the cost is the same as last year $15.00 which you book with Maree and Graham. This fills up very fast so I suggest you all register early and not leave it to the last minute like in previous years.

Raffle Winners that were drawn yesterday were Noel Kahui, Rex Peebles and John West.

Next Saturday on the 24th February the course is closed until last afternoon, we are hosting the Cossie Club Charity Golf, it is a shotgun start at 10am, the reserve day is the following Saturday 3rd March, this start sheet will not be opened up until after Saturday the 24th.

This would be a good idea for members who are not playing in the St Pats and Cossie Club days to use your bonus cards at Shandon or Judgeford, the expiry date on these cards are the end of April, so make sure you get to play your free games before the next lot of bonus cards arrive, there is a date on the back so you can’t use them when expired.

In 2017 I sent out a newsletter to you all about the insurance the club had through NZ Golf for damaged golf clubs and gear, plus NZ golf e-mailed all members as well. You can no longer claim through the Club for any Golf gear, all members were notified that they could sign up with NZ Golf Direct through the GEAP scheme for only $20.00 a year, with a $15.00 excess. Golfers Equipment Assistance Programme is a New Zealand Golf established service to serve the interest of golfers throughout NZ. It provides compensation for golf equipment that is outside the scope of cover provided by household or personal effect insurance. This was set up to enable golfers to receive cover for their golfing equipment which was once covered under the redundant MAP Scheme. I know some members read my e-mail and have signed up, but sadly when some members have come in to claim for a broken club, I then have to explain about the GEAP, sadly those members are the ones that don’t read the BLOB.

Please remember that your weekly newsletters are to inform you of important details, I don’t just sit here for the hell of it typing rubbish, it is your newsletter, your news. I’m sure the above information has also been on the DotGolf site also. If you are interested in the above insurance please go to the golf.co.nz website and check it out.

Great to her that Lydia Ko is in a nine way tie for the lead at the Women’s Australian Open in Adelaide yesterday, amazingly at only 20 years of age this is already the former no one’s eighth appearance at this event, showing how long she has been on the scene, already achieving so much in her career. Be sure to watch her this afternoon, there are so many young talented wave of players to come this evening that have the potential to knock the kiwi off poll position. She so deserves things to go her way!!!

What’s on this Week:

Saturday – Interclub Div 1 & 4, plus MAT, and Porirua Club.

Sunday – Club Day – Summer Cup Round 3??? (been away so I think!!)

Monday – course available.

Tuesday – MW Men.

Wednesday – MW Women.

Thursday – MW Men. – Evergeeens at Trentham v Manor Park.

Friday – course available all day.

My understanding was Strokeplay etc was postponed on Sunday the 11th February to be played on Sunday 25th February, I just have to check why the Don Hazlett for the Juniors Round 1 was not cancelled on the 11th as well.

Everyone have a great weekend.

Regards Sonia
